So here's the recap of my run/race on Saturday. The 1st Annual Hot Chocolate Run in Addison.
The race sold out.. seriously 1700 runners, walkers, etc. Most of them for the 5K, but some crazy peeps decided to run the 10K course. It was a fairly easy course, out and back. Once for the 5K.. Twice for the 10K. Me I opted for the 5K and by the time it ended I was thankful too.
Cold and drizzly morning, we started out at Addison Circle, headed south on Addison Rd. and then turned right onto Arapaho Rd. Over the big blue bridge, down Arapaho some more and then turned around.
I spent the first quarter to half mile messing with all my gear.. I was getting over heated. Oddly enough... Even in this cold I still can't run with a jacket... Weird I know.. So I took off my beanie first ended up carrying it. ( I just couldn't bear to toss it).. Took off my jacket, wrapped that around my waist and then my phone was in the pocket of my jacket but it is somewhat heavy, so I ended up wrapping that up in my beanie and carrying that too.
Then there was the whole mess up my headphones..I had the ones that wrap around my ears so they always stayed in place but those quit on me, and so I was forced to use the ones I use at work. Ear buds that just sit in your ear..So given all the jarring they wouldn't stay in my ears and then I am off pace. Grrr... Finally I get settled with all my gear and just give up on my music and decide to count my steps.. not like 1,2,3,4.. but 1,2, 1.2.. Left Right, Left Right..to try and keep some kind of pace..

20 seconds
Now remember I said over the big blue bridge... Right.. Well the first half of the bridge was a lot easier than the second half.. That hill was STEEP.. but I pressed on..
I ran more than I have ever run in a 5K and it paid off. I finished the race 20 seconds faster than my last 5K.. Wahoo!! I set a new PR..I cross the finish line with a time of 36.48..
I got my prize for crossing and headed straight for the HOT CHOCOLATE!!
Overall it was a good race. Proud of how far I have come. In 10 months, I have taken over 3 and half minutes off my 5K time and run more than anyone thought I would.
On to my next challenge.. What race is next on the horizon?
